What does everyone think about this controversial film? Have you seen it? Is all the violence necessary? Should such a film ever be released?

I've seen it and its the most violent film I've ever seen in my life - and that's saying something. What's more of a surprise is I didn't even enjoy the violence. I guess it's because it's supposed to be based on a true story.

I think it is a wonderful idea. People in this world lose touch with religion. The cinema is a wonderful way to get people thinking again.

it's only a good idea if it gives the big picture. I don't think a film about the last 12 hours of Christ's life is helpful or appealing.

The whole point is to understand the pain that Christ went through to redeem humanity's sins. It may not be appealing, and may feel uncomfortable - but the message is important and powerful.
Have you even watched the film??? |

Violent? Never!!!! | #6 | ||

Of course a film about a crucifixion is violent - as for distasteful, I think Quentin Tarantino's films would have to be condemned before Gibson!

The movie was definitely violent and honestly though it brought out alot out of me simply because it told the story from the last 12 hours, it still did no true justice to the whole story itself.
I think had the film shown more of his ministries, and of the awesome miracles he performed then that would have been much better. When I first walked into the theater I was really hoping to see the miracle he performed on Lazarus, now that would have been amazing to see. And though the did show a vague scene portraying the prosititute and he who is with out sin...But I think had they shown it in its entirety it would have given even more insight about the type of man Jesus was when he was here. Rather then the butt whoopen he took. (O.k so butt whoopen in this case is a bit of an understatment!) |

I think you are right - it would have been good to see alot more about the life and miracles of Jesus.
But I felt Mel Gibson was almost trying to make us suffer - leaving out the 'wow' stuff and making us think about our sins by the pain he endured. What do you think? |

That may have been the point of the Gibson film, but it only works if you already have a knowledge of the life and teachings of Jesus. Many people do not have this knowledge and so the film just looks like gratuitous violence.

I thought the film was gratuitously violent and obscene. There was nothing spiritual about it and thus nothing to learn!
